Passfaces Achieves Grade 'A'
In her June 2007 article, 'Face Time', Michelle S. Haase, Technology Staff Writer for Government Computer News (GCN) gave her balanced review of Passfaces.
Performance: A-
Ease of Use: A+
Features: B+
Value: A
Price: $6 per user for 1 to 99 users; discounts for higher numbers.
Reviewer's Comments:
"Remembering people's faces makes it easy to log on; and memorized faces can't be stolen, spoofed, or even given away very easily. The system is immune to spyware and phishing, though a thief can look over a user's shoulder to see which faces need to be clicked on."
Michelle's point about 'shoulder surfers' can of course be minimised by the use of the keyboard number pad to select the Passfaces instead of the mouse (almost like a one-time password, due to the random location of 'your' Passfaces amongst the 8 decoy faces).
When dicussing this point, Michelle confirmed that: "my thought about the thief is that if someone were not using the keypad method and didn't know another person was standing nearby, there could be a risk."
